Returning to golf for the first time since 8th grade
Carcosa Country Club details the descent into madness that is returning to golf for the first time since 8th grade.
In 8th grade, I golfed almost every weekend I could at the public nine hole course. Then during the summer, I took lessons at Manasquan River Golf Club supplemented with the occasional round at Bel-Aire in Wall, New Jersey.
After a frustrating round off the tee, temperamental me slammed my driver against an obnoxiously large Cobra cart bag. The head skittered off much like the tees that day.
I wouldn’t golf again for at least ten years.
And, it was one time. The first time ever playing 18. And, we didn’t have a cart.
That was around 2014. The exact year escapes me, but I do know I hadn’t replaced my driver yet and my legs were gone by the 13th hole.
There would be no golf again until months after covid hit NYC. Some divine power was kind enough to bless my apartment with a simulator in the basement and the return was on.
This is Carcosa Country Club, a golf podcast about memory, family, and an obsessive pursuit no longer dormant.
